stroke risk?
I live with an 89 year old lady who was prescribed a 3 day dose of
levaquin for a minor urinary tract infection. After taking the first
dose she was incredibly lethargic, ate little, etc. The second day she
started shaking all over and stopped talking altogether. She also
stopped walking, and she's been in a wheelchair since. We found out
that sometime that week she had a stroke too.
Is it possible that the stroke was related to the levaquin? Everyone I
know over 80 who's taken the medicine has had very bad reactions. Then
again, I only know people over 80 who've taken it... But I'm wondering
why doctors keep prescribing it, especially to people who are not very
able to describe what's happening to their bodies

Levaquin Delayed Shooting Muscle Pains and Nightmares
I had taken Levaquin before but hadn't noticed any problems. Then at
the end of September 2003 to the beginning of October 2003, I took
500mg of Levaquin for 10 days for bronchitis. 2 weeks after I finished
the prescription, I experienced joint pains and shooting/stabbing
muscle pains and muscle burning, all of which jumped around and went
off and on. This was for a few days. Then I had nightmares where I
would wake up screaming, praying, and hitting the bed. The frequency
of the nightmares is diminishing. December 2003 I was hospitalized
with chest pains, had EKG, stress test, and cardiac catheterization,
but nothing was found. Also since about January 2004, I have had mouth
and tongue sores that come and go and move from place to place. Since
about the same month, I have had week long throat pain that feels like
it's in my vocal cords, but it also comes and goes and varies in
intensity throughout the days that I have it. Has anyone else
experienced any of these things?

Was prescribed Levaquin for UTI. 8th day, knee swelling and severe
pain in tendons in back of knees, had to stay off my feet. If it
weren't for the computer, I wouldn't have known that tendonitis was
one of the adverse reactions to this medication. I stopped medication
immediately. 1 wk later tendons in hands very painful. I'm glad I
found this web site. By reading people's experiences, it helped me
cope with the pain and gave me hope that this will eventually
disappear. I seem to be more fortunate then some, its 5 wks since I
stopped medication and knees seem to be alot better, only hurt if I
stand or walk too long. Left hand is the problem, still very painful,
have to stop and rest it often. Sometimes I am lulled into a false
sense of security and think everything is back to normal, then pain
returns. Pharmacy, doctors have been no help, very evasive. Filed a
report with Drug Co. In the meantime, I will have to REST and drink
plenty of water and hope this will all disappear eventually. Good luck
to all who are suffering. I have prayed more often.

I was perscribed Levaquin for post STD and urinary infection. Aroudn
teh fourth day, I noticed I was really dizzya nd had heart
palpitations. I was able to let my body to takes its time and get rid
oft he UTI on its own fortunately.
If you have trouble with digestion, I suggest trying accidolphilus
pills or something to replenish the intestines with healthy bacteria,
that solved a lot of the common gas problems.
