Post Marketing Reports March 2005 Tue, 22 Mar 2005 23:13:48 -0500 by rab, #10191 Oops! Excuse the entry below. I goofed & hit the wrong key. Anyhoo, here is my Levaquin story. I am 51 & was diagnosed with cellulitis on Jan. 19th of this year. I was given an IV drug, (Daptomyacin) & 500 mg of Levaquin for 16 days. Towards the end of the treatment, my joints became very achy. (mostly in my knees) I was having burning, tingling sesations throughout my body & my calves were cramping. One week after treatment, I could barely walk through our house. I normally am active, with daily walks & short jogs. Within days, I had to have knee surgery. It is now almost 5 weeks past my surgery. The achy joints, burning, cramping & tingling are still present off & on throughout my body. Although the orthopaedic surgeon did find trauma in my knee, (past fractures, etc.) I am convinced the Levaquin sped up & exacerbated the damage. Now my other knee is hurting so bad, I am starting to think that one will need surgery as well. Both my orthopaedic surgeon the infectious disease Dr. that prescribed the Levaquin dismiss the notion that Levaquin had anything to do with it or that my joints are aching because of the drug. I am thrilled I find this site, because I realize that I haven't imagined these symptoms. But the reality of these reactions is quite sobering. I have never had a bad reaction to a drug in my lifetime. This one was so sudden & severe, I had to add my account to this list. I've just started trying the Milk of Magnesia & hope it works. I too have been drinking lots of water. God bless each of you out there suffering with this & may we find some solutions soon. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Tue, 22 Mar 2005 22:57:06 -0500 by rab, #10190 SSS -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mon, 21 Mar 2005 21:48:40 -0500 by helen, #10166 I took levaquin(poison)for 10 days in Oct 2004 for pneumonia. I immediately had tinnitus. On day 2 I had pain under my ribs and thought I cracked a rib from coughing. I couldn't sleep and when I did I had nightmares. I was very depressed, had a mettalic taste in my mouth, my tongue was red and hurt terribly. The pain went from my ribs to my knee to my shoulders. I have had psycotic episodes where I've thrown things in my house and scared my husband and myself. After 5 months, I'm sleeping better and I've recently got most of my taste back. The pain moves from place to place and I have pain almost every day. The tinnitus is as bad as it was 5 months ago. I've been to a ent for the first time in my life and he said I had fluid in my ear. He tried togive me an antibiotic but I'm scared to take anything. I have some hearing loss in that ear. I'm depressed most of the time. I'm angry at my dr. who never warned me about this drug, the pharmacy who also didn't warn me. I was taking aspirin and advil and later found out that those drugs with the levaquin could damage my central nervous system. Of course by that time it was too late. I have filed with Med watch, contacted Ortho-McNeill. Ortho-McNeill sent me a registered letter asking me tosign a medical release form. I told them that the only thing I would sign is a check from them to help me pay my medical expenses (have no insurance). Of course, I haven't heard from them again. Tell everyone you know never to take a chance with this medicine. A reaction to this poison is not like any other. This stuff does damage. It doesn't go away when you stop taking it. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Fri, 18 Mar 2005 16:58:48 -0500 by kens, #10103 Severe leg cramping from right foot up to right hip. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Tue, 15 Mar 2005 15:31:17 -0500 by Guest, #10048 Well here it is 5 more days since my last post. The hospital where I went to the emergency room and the maker of LEVAQUIN still do not answer my inquiries. I REPEAT THEY HAVE NOT ANSWERED ME. This tells me there is something really wrong with the drug system here in the USA. The answer I got from the FDA was not a good answer either. You could or at least I got the opinion that if a drug maybe helps some and doesn't kill too many they leave it on the market. All I can say now is beware of what is perscribed for you and don't let it cripple or maybe even kill you. Ed -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Tue, 15 Mar 2005 00:15:24 -0500 by dallasguy, #10041 I took Levaquin for 17 days (500mg). My eye site is now very poor (2 wks after the final pill), and I have to drink lots of water (always have "cotton mouth") and therefore I have to urinate all the time! The doctor said the eye sight going is temp and only 1/2 as bad as other similar drugs! I used to run fairly fast and now my times are really slow. Sometimes I get a little 'off-balance' too. This drug is the pits! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sat, 12 Mar 2005 22:49:18 -0500 by username1, #10014

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Thu, 10 Mar 2005 19:09:04 -0500 by Guest, #9987 Here I am again (ED) The hospital and the maker of levaquin still refuse to answer me. I can't get one word out of them. If any one else has any luck getting answers please post them on here. Thanks Ed. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Wed, 9 Mar 2005 12:43:28 -0500 by cheybee, #9960 Some lady entered that we should all quit complaining about the bad side effects because she loves this drug and to just use something else. I now need an antidote to counter act it. This site isn't for people who don't have a badside effect. We arn't being selfish and trying to deprive her of this drug. I have serious joint and tendon and muscle tenderness. Have trouble sleeping from pain. Perhaps my fault, but I had mild arthritus when I took this drug, nothing really bad, within five days I couldn't get down the stairs. I thought ,what, after years of mild arthritis It had attacked me. Well I continued for another round and then it got worse. Yeah, I thought then. Its a reation! Antidote - I'm afraid it's going to get worse. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mon, 7 Mar 2005 10:35:50 -0500 by guest, #9903 I went to an internist for nasal congestion and he put me on levaquin. I was previously in very good health. My life has become a nightmare since taking ten days of 500mgs. I was dizzy right away but I decided to be stick it out because the print out said that dizziness could be a side effect. The pharmacy print out failed to mention that it could cause excruciating pain in the joints in my whole body and especially my knees. This was three weeks ago and I can hardly walk. I was a substitue teacher before and I cannot go back to work. I can't sleep from the pain and can hardly get up stairs. I keep hearing cracking noises when I move my body. I forgot to mention that I developed a yeast infection, burning skin, crawling feeling all over. I took Diflucan to get rid of the yeast. I want to walk normally again. I've been off the medicine about three weeks and I am feeling worse.I am taking Advil to help but I am not sure it is. Does anyone know how long these symptoms last and what can be done. I am frightened. This medicine is poison!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sun, 6 Mar 2005 15:56:33 -0500 by bsmith, #9885 I was diagnosed with Bronchitis. I was given 500mg of levaquinn. I took one tablet with food. For the next 4 days I was unable to eat due to the constant nausea and vomiting. I was unable to sleep, eat or drink. I developed pains in my back because of the straining of coughing and vomiting. How can a drug with so many bad effectsn be permitted. I would like to hear a Doctors opinion. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Fri, 4 Mar 2005 06:10:11 -0500 by Guest, #9839 Ref: My last post-As far as getting any answers. No change in the last 24 hrs. Ed -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Thu, 3 Mar 2005 01:10:29 -0500 by Guest, #9816 To-ASICKELS I know there are some who say that LEVAQUIN helped them and they had little or no side effects. As for me I truly believe had I went ahead and managed to continued taking it I don't really know what would have happened. I do feel that I may have escaped death by stopping when I did. Suggestion-Ask your Dr. to read the complaints on this web site. Surely a caring doctor would do at least that much. I will tell you this-I have been trying to get real answers from the FDA, the maker of levaquin, and from the hospital where I went to the emergency room. As of now no luck what so ever. I intend to keep hammering at them. I have talked to people who tell me that if I get any results that they will be surprised. I wish you the best of luck on this matter. May God bless.-Ed

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Tue, 1 Mar 2005 21:23:02 -0500 by Guest, #9788 As of 5:00 p.m. today 3-1-2005 I have not been able to get a reply from the hospital or the maker of LEVAQUIN. If and when I get answers from them will post what they have to say on this website.-Ed -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Tue, 1 Mar 2005 21:08:34 -0500 by Guest, #9787 To: MKGOTCHA-I will not ever take LEVAQUINN again as long as I am in my right mind and know what is going on.-Ed
