I took levaquin for 4 days last week for a sinus infection. When I realized I was probably having a reaction to the drug I stopped. My muscles and joints ache, my right knee swelled up and I am experienceing periods of hot and cold. My knee is slightly better but, in general, Istill feel miserable. Does anyone know how long this lasts?

This drug should be revised, there is something serious wrong in its make up.I find eating mustard gives temperary relief. There has to be and antidote to this poison.Iam afraid we have taken poison that will keep on going if we can't fine antidote for it.Lets all work together and fine one.One pill should flush out of the body in hours not weeks month years.

4 days ago my doctor perscribed Levaquin for my acute bronchitis. The first night after taking one dose of Levaquin, I was unable to sleep due to uncontrolable twitching of my legs. The next two days (still taking the medication) I felt exhausted, drained, no energy, nervous. My legs felt week.
My eyes were watery and itchy. Last night I woke up in the night and my left eye was very watery and swollen. Also, feeling slightly depressed.

DO NOT take Cipro if you had a problem with Levaquin. These meds are from the SAME family of drugs (called, I believe quinolones). My doc said to never take any med ending in (...*ones".

Be very careful.

My mother took Levaquin three times for a unirary tract infection. The first time she could not sleep all night. So we discontinued, and got a prescription for Bactrim, which cleared the infection up. The infection came back a few weeks later (pain on urination)and since we did not have another prescription, she took one tablet of Levaquin and it seemed to clear up the infection, and she did not have sleep problems, but did complain about joint pain, which we did not associate with Levaquin. The infection came back again, and she took another Levaquin last night--she slept OK, but this morning she felt dizzy, but blood pressure was OK, and could not stand up, and toppled over, with weakness in her legs. We attribute this to the Levaquin. Do not take this again. The doctor precribed Cipro, but I don't know if we want to take Cipro, since my late father had a seizure taking Cipro (he eventually died from the effects of all the antibiotics the doctors gave him). It is unfortunate that one has to be so careful about drugs precribed by the doctors.

I took levaquin almost two years ago for four days for a bladder infection, and I have had severe joint and muscle pain all over my body and especially in my neck, shoulders, and hands. I am still having problems, some days are worse than others, I was tested for rheumatoid arthritis and for lupus, and the doctor finally said that is was from the adverse reaction from the levaquin, I also have dry eyes, mouth sores, and nose sores. Does anyone have any answers?

I'm being treated for a sinus infection with Levaquin and have been experiencing lower leg tingling, pins and needles feeling, muscle twitches. I mentioned this to the doctor but he didn't mention anything about this being a side effect. I wanted to see a neurologist because the twitching really concerned me, but he seemed to think that it was from the sinus infection. Now after reading on the net the side effects of Levaquin, I see that it's probably a side effect. Anyone else experience this? Thanks, David Pascucci

Took Levaquin for 2 days for a urinary infection, and had muscle cramps in left calf so intense could hardly wallk, the calf was rock hard. Later in the day, right leg seized up. Took one (1) more pill when finally realized that it was probably the medicine so I quit taking it. A week later after getting home from a trip, took one (1) more pill and both calves started to get hard and hurt again. Will not take this medicine again!

It's been months since I entered my adverse reaction to Levaquin here. Since then, my symptoms persist. A source of help for me has been the yahoo group devoted to support and information for victims who have been adversely affected by the antibiotic group called fluoroquinolones, including Cipro and Levaquin, among others. I hope anyone who visits here will also visit there for the best sources of info on these drugs.

After just taking one does of Levaquin for a sinus infection, I had a noticable allergic reation. I felt itchy all over my body and my lips and tongue tingled and swelled. I took an antihistamine (Zyrtec) to counteract the effects. My dr. also gave me a three day dose of prednisone to help eliviate the swelling of my face and lips that still persist.

I took Levaquin 750mg 1 daily for 6 weeks for infected hip prosthesis in May & June '02 and had pain in both of my hands, especially in the finger joints. As of 1-30-03 I still have severe pain morning and evening in both hands (finger joints). Feels like there is no lubrication in the joints. And now am experiencing the same starting in both shoulders. Vioxx helps but does not eliminate the pain.

I've used Levaquin once before for sinus infection with good results. However, this time (6 months later) I am feeling awful on it. I've had the strange sensation of my body feeling extremely heated and then chilled; as well as some diarreah and just a strange sensation of not feeling "right". Of course I can't sleep normally at all (last time I considered it the price to pay for getting well) so I'm sure sleep deprivation adds to the mix. But I'm also feeling "off" mentally -- can't concentrate well in my classes. And worst of all, for a student, am having vision impairment also. I'm done with Levaquin - I'll take the sinus pain anyday. One other thing FYI, I am prone to joint pain (plain sudafed is horrible for me), but Levaquin thankfully has not caused any joint pain in me. Go figure.

I am in the forth dose of Levaquin, couldn't sleep at night. Usually, I go to sleep without too much problem but after taking Levaquin, I toss and turn all night long. What a horror. Took Nyquil and benadryl, didn't help. Oh God, what to do?

I take lithium for a bipolar illness and found that the Levaquin actually interacted with my medicine and lowered it's effectiveness. My doctor tested my level with a blood test and found it had been lowered by 33% in just 10 days. Also, I experienced pain in my shoulder muscles and had heart palpitations as well. I felt feverish at times too, yet, much of the time I felt so cold. I experienced nausea, and dizziness. Best of all, I couldn't sleep worth a darn either. I took this instead of Biaxin because the Biaxin gave me stomach cramps and diarrhea. I'll tell you what, I will beg to take the Biaxin over the Levaquin next time I get a sinus infection.

After just 3 doses (over 3 days), my hands started to hurt. On the fourth day, things were so bad, I could barely use them. I quit taking the med and slowly my hands are returning to normal. Peripheral neuropathy best describes my symptoms.

I came off levaquin a week ago. I had taken the drug for 30 days and was given a second thirty day perscription at completion. I felt that many of the side effects were symptoms of my illness (prostatitis). A week had lapsed between both perscrtiptions. I noticed the symptoms ease during the gap. Once I started the new perscription I felt neasious, constipation, feverous with no fever, sharp random muscle pain, tightening of neck muscles, tension headahces, anxiety and depression. Although, these syptoms are not as sever as they were when I was taking Levaquin, I still have them at various times throughout the day. Is there any relief? How long will it continue?

Was given Prednisone and Levaquin for bronchitis and asthma. Experienced PVC's for 3-4 hours. Took for 3 days because of bronchitis. Happened each time I took Medicine. Anyone else have this happen to them?
