Post Marketing Reports December 2004 Sun, 26 Dec 2004 18:55:02 -0500 by Guest, #8548 My 16 yr old son has experienced: hallucinations, tinnitus, calves cramping, pin-point headaches, knees, feet, wrist pain. Nightmares with fasciculations (sensation of skin crawling), vision disturbances (black spots). He has had concentration problems, making it difficult to complete sentences and read. It has been almost 3 weeks since he took ONE PILL 500 mg Levaquin. (The next entry is also mine.) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sun, 26 Dec 2004 10:27:39 -0500 by Guest, #8544 Thank you to all who have posted here. My 16 yr old son was prescribed Levaquin on 12/7/04 by a PA who told me, "this is a great new drug we don't normally give to children, but at 16-- he's old enough". (This drug is not approved for ANYONE UNDER 18.) My husband picked up the meds and gave one 500 mg levaquin pill to my son. I arrived at work and started researching Levaquin. This site was the first to pop up. I called home too late-- he had already taken one dose. He has experienced many of the side effects. It is now 3 weeks later. I have not seen many teens experiences and most posting do not tell their age. I am trying everything that will help cleanse his system. He is drinking lots of spring water with magnesium, also everyday eating yogurt, grape juice, sweet potatoes, broccoli, and almonds. I have found these to be healing foods for myself. He is also taking MSM 1,000 mg. MSM is a vasodilator. He tried to take Slow-Mag, but it caused abdominal cramps. I would like more information about what to do, and other teens recoveries. My son is very active, plays several musical instruments and is in marching band (snare drum). Thanks to you all, he didn't take anymore of this poison. I am certain the outcome would have been devastating. One pill was one too many. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sat, 4 Dec 2004 19:03:08 -0500 by Guest, #8251 I started taking Leviquin three days ago. I had a urinary infection that had probably spread to my respitory system, so I was not in good shape. The respitory problem was bad, in that I could not lie down without eventually going into violent coughing fits, the kind that make you vomit from their intensity. In fact, I *did* vomit at one point, and was absolutely sure what I saw was half my blood coming up out of my mouth, which of course sent me into a panic due to its color and volume. I had forgotten that I'd been drinking red fruit juice all night, however, and realizing that's the only thing that made me smile these past days. My doctor inspected my areas and prescribed Levaquin. Well, it certainly killed the respitory infection. Even up til I went in the door at the doc's, it was with me, but that night after that first dose, not a cough. Also, not a wink of sleep. And no sleep the next night either. And quite a few times as I've drifted towards the veil and then been savagely yanked back, I've almost begun crying and shivering, afraid that I'm going to die now. And now that I've read a few horror stories, I'm pretty scared that I might be sleepless until God knows when. Or worse. I'm not taking a dose tomorrow, and am going back to the doctor Monday and demanding something else. I'm only scared now that whatever I've done is irreparable. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Thu, 2 Dec 2004 05:21:08 -0500 by mltbranch1955, #8190 My 15 yr. old daughter was given Levaquin at age 12, thats 3 years ago. After the first pill she started having leg muscle cramps and pain in her elbow. As the more of the 5 pills she was to take went on she continued with joint pain in knees and hips and her feet. Well its been 3 years of this and she is no better, the pain is not severe all the time but it is still there. What are you suppose to do. Why was she given this medicine when it plainly states on the package not to give to children under the age of 18, well the PA who saw her did not pay attention to this and the Doctor who signed his charts did not catch it either. I am sure the Dr. didnot even read the notes, but reguardless my daughter is left with these painful side effects and the Orthopedist we took her to right after it happened said oh give it time it will get out of her system. Well we are still waiting 3 years later. How much worse is it going to get? I have hired an Attorney but as there are no case studies on children he cannot do anything. There is plenty of case studies on small or young animals. A shame I didnt give birth to a animal isnt it. Please tell me where I can find my answer to the studies reported on children. We are desparate I want to know when this is going to stop? thank you mltbranch
