PAIN AND BURNING OVER THE LOWER 1/3 OF MY BACK. MILD PAIN IN MY ANKLES.

I took Avelox as I left the doctor's office. ( she had given me a sample) I was driving my 2 year old daughter home when I began to feel panic, fear, Tremors, tingling in my head, dizziness and an overall sense of illness. We live in the country, and I was afraid if I pulled over, no one would stop for a long time, and my daughter would be caught in the car. It took all my focus to get us home, and I felt if I could just get her in the house, I would call the ambulance, and she'd be safe.

I was weak and dizzy, so first I called my husband to tell him to come home and to call a squad. He called the neighbor, and she came right over. We both called the doctor I had just left, and a pharmacist. They told me I had an adverse effect to the medicine, and to drink lots of water. I was also experiencing severe dry mouth, and a headache, muscle fatique, and tingling.

With 4 glasses of water the symptoms began to subside. Later that night, I had occasional chest pains. I was told by the physician to stop using the drug.

I have since found out the label says "Do not Drive". I am so thankful nothing happened to my baby daughter, and we were able to make it home safely.

Avelox

I took 15 days of Avelox in March 2004. This was given with Prednisone (Medrol) which enhances the possibility of an ADR. I initially had lower leg and Achilles tendon pain, then sharp wrist pain. Paresthesia soon followed. I called my ENT who told me to quit the medication. Nevertheless, a couple days later, I developed a rash on my palms which looked like allergic vasculitis, and the paresthesia intesified. My GP suspected a drug reaction and performed CPK tests. CPK 3 came back elevated but later returned to normal. A couple weeks later, numbness developed in my toes.

A neurologist has so far diagnosed me with bilateral ulnar neuritis (nerve inflammation in the elbows), carpal tunnel syndrome, and tendinitis. There is also evidence of a peripheral neuropathy. I can no longer exercise, and it hurts to type. My hands are still red and inflammed.

ADRs to this drug are virtually identical to those of Levaquin. the drug is extraordinarily dangerous, and should be reserved for the most aggressive infections.

Cipro

Fri, 23 Jul 2004 14:07:13 -0400 by jarapper, #6628

I've had constant muscle pain for years now. I never connected it with Cipro, which I've been on numerous times for uti. Yesterday, the doc prescribed Levaquin since Cipro seems to be losing its effectiveness. I became extremely drowsy and anxious, went looking on the net about Levaquin and discovered it's in the same class as Cipro! After reading the posts on lots of sites about Cipro and Levaquin, I'm scared I've really harmed myself, but now that I read about others, my symptoms are beginning to make sense, so I'm somewhat relieved. Doctors CANNOT be trusted, as they are so pressured - brainwashed, really - by the drug giants to prescribe, prescribe, prescribe. The system stinks. Outright, legal bribery.

I took Cipro in April 2002 with no apparent side effects at the time. In June 2002, I experienced an unexplained tendon rupture in my arm. Over the next year I began to have more and more muscle and tendon pain. Now, February 2004, I have been diagnosed with fibromyalgia. My rheumatologist believes it could be related to muscle and tendon damage caused by the Cipro.

Just finished 75days of 600Mg Clindamycin, followed by 30 dats of 1000Mg Cipro for staph skin infection. In comparison Cipro did much in 1 month than Clindamycin did in 2.5 months. The side effect of Cipro was general tiredness for the first two weeks of Cipro, rather like getting beaten down with a bat every time you try to move. Once my body got past those two weaks, i felt better every day and have return to almost normal energy and am going to gym and riding my bike again. Gladly today was my last day on Cipro, and am going to 2 week dose on Levaquin since about 25% infection remains. I just want to state my opinion: staph skin infections are subtle but extremely serious and should be attacked with the most powerful antibiotics (like Cpiro) non-stop as soon as they are (swab) diagnosed. Thinking that a 2 week broad band treatment will get staph is just complete dreaming and in my opinion only kills the good bacteria to just let the staph run rampant and get a foothold all over - making it extremely difficult to kill later like my case. Prior to getting staph I was perfectly healthy for 35 years with great skin. I am extremely lucky NOT to have any alergies to any drugs and should survive this painful experience with only 30 or so scars. I'll post back on the Levaquin page [ Click to see link: Link ]in a few weeks to let anyone interested know how this drug works out. The plan after i am done the Levaquin, is to go back on Cipro for 2 more weeks and try to catch the bug offguard finally. In my case, I am more than willing to tolerate any of these side effects, because my body could not fight this infection on its own and given maybe another year, it would have otherwise eventually completely covered me and I would not have survived that !

levaquin

Was prescribed Levaquin for sinus infection. I'm a runner and agree with another runner's posting. Don't take this drug if you run! Sudden mysterious knee and foot pain sent me searching the web to check side effects. I quit the drug and told my doctor about the side effects. My pain & stiffness went away in about 2 weeks. Glad I didn't rupture a tendon.

I had the unfortunate experience of taking both avalox and Levaquin to treat a case of chronic sinusitis. I received Levaquin for 10 days at 500 mg / per day. After four days I began experiencing extreme pain in my knees, soles of my feet, and hip joints. The pain became so severe I could barely get out of bed in the morning. I contacted my doctor who advised me to stop taking the drug immediately and prescribed another drug in a different class. It has been almost a month since stopping Levaquin and I continue to experience pain in my knees and soles of my feet. This website was a Godsend. I suspected my cotinued pain was caused by this drug but couldn't be sure. Thanks to you all for sharing the side effects you've suffered as well. This is definitely a case in which the treatment can be much worse than the illness.

I was prescribed Levaquin for recurring prostatitis by my urologist. I am a 33 year-old male and a moderate runner, about 15-20 miles per week and do half-marathons without much difficulty.

I started taking the pills in early August in the middle of the week. I ran two 7-mile routes over that weekend and felt more worn out than usual. I thought I was just burning out a little and did not run again until that following Saturday. I ran my usual 7-mile route but it was a living hell. I experienced weakness in my leg muscles, shortness of breath, and just a general, chronic fatigue. I was mad at myself--I was worried that since I had skipped by mid-week run that I had lost my "wind".

The next day I felt as if I had been hit by a truck. I could not get down the stairs in my home. I had severe pain in my Achilles heels and knee joints. My wife's good friend is a pharma rep and she explained to me that ligament tightening (with high potential for rupture) is one of the side effects. Great, I thought, my doctor gave me these pills without discussing any of this and now I have put myself at significant risk for rupturing a tendon and being on crutches for months.

I got off the pills but the pain in my knees was nearly crippling. I walked with a significant limp for three weeks after getting off the meds. Sitting for more than 30 minutes and then getting up would cause my right knee to not be able to bend and I needed to take several steps before it would loosen.

Of course, my running stopped for a month. I had to stop training for the Chicago half and full marathons.

Sitting here today as of October 22, I still have significant pain in my right knee. I am running regularly, but with about 50% the strength and stamina as before I got on the meds.

If you are a runner I would not consider taking this medication for any reason. The risk of a materially negative impact to your training and your lifestyle is significant.

I am into my 6th day of taking 500mgs a day. The first day my calves tightened up-felt like I'd been exercising too hard. My mouth has been dry, and now the bones in my hands ache and I have a fever. Today was spent over the sink barfing, or rather, trying to. I have heartburn/acid reflux that keeps gagging me. Feels like someone punched me in the chest and then set it on fire. I haven't been able to eat anything since yesterday because it just sits in my throat and then comes right back up. I also wasn't expecting severe constipation, as the other antibiotics had given me diarrhea. I'm glad I found this site because none of the literature mentions any of these side effects, and my doctor said there were no side effects. I was prescribed for pneumonia/bronchitis/sinus infection, and after the first day I was impressed because the lung pain and coughing had lessened considerably, my head stopped hurting and I could breathe. I didn't think much of these symptoms, even though they were new, because I was told there were none. I attributed them to the fact that I have Epstein-Barr. Now my guess would be they are directly related to the medication. I'm glad I found that other people have had these reactions, too.

Oh my god, this drug is horrible, ive been taken it for three days for bronchitis, i woke up and couldn't tolerate any light, felt so confused i could barely do simple math, got a really bad "cold" burning sensation in my head ,eyes , arms. 24 hours later, which is now, im shaking uncrontrolably and hypervenalating, starting to think straighter though. I called the ER and they said stop it immidatly. this was the most horrible drug ive ever taken, i thought i had a serious brain problem till i found this site. I definantly wish i knew these effects were possible before i took this .
