Levaquin
Posted on 26 March 1999
I am suffering a severe toxic reaction after taking one levaquin for a
sinus infection. I normally do not take anything but penicillin but my
ENT insisted that this drug was safe with no side effects. Two hours
after taking this drug I had extreme muscle pain and went to bed
feeling wired. I was unable to sleep and the following day I felt
worse and decided not to take another pill. I am on day six of
terrible side affects. I am experiencing numbness in my achilles
tendons, dizziness, some visual disturbances and today I was in the
emergency room with bleeding into my leg tissues. The doctors assured
me that this was temporary but after reading these forums and feeling
the way I do I think that they simply don't know how toxic this drug
is to those of us who have this specific body chemistry that reacts
with this drug. I feel like I am being poisoned from the inside out.
The doctors informed me that this drug is 1000x stronger than
penicillin and that it penetrates all tissues at 100%. It should not
be used as a first line of defense antibiotic. He also told me that it
can penetrate bone so it most likely is a danger to bone marrow and
immune cells. If you have the body chemistry that causes this drug to
be neuro-toxic you are in big damn trouble as I am right now. Last
week I was a normal happy athletic mom and now I may be permanently
disabled. The fact that this drug is o.k. for most people doesn't gel
for me. Any drug this toxic should be only used as a last line of
defense. I pray someone who is prescribed this drug reads this and
decides to take something else. I wish I had. Does anyone have any
information as to how long this hell will go on?
