Cipro
Posted on 19 August 1999
I am a 35 yr old male, in excellent physical condition. I was a
sprinter for 15 years, played soccer for 5, ran distance etc.... I
have never had a problem with my Achilles. I got a sinus and ear
infection back in May 99 from surfing. I was put on Cipro. The first
regiment didnt fix the rpoblem so they extended it. Then to be safe
they gave me a little more. I was on it for about 30 days total. I
went for a jog one evening and the next day I was hobbling around,
with 1 painfully sore Achilles tendon, and another kinda sore. I have
been running competitively since I was 10 years old. I only ran about
1 mile with my wife who just got her skates, so I was going very slow,
walking at times. It was well out of the ordinary. Since then, it has
been 3 months and things have not gotten better. In the morning I
hobble around the house, literally, for about 5-10 minutes till my
Achilles loosen up. Any physical activity leaves me hobbling for the
next day or two. Tennis is no longer an option. Skateboarding leaves
the pushing legs Achilles in shambles. I free dive, and the action of
the using the flippers makes the Achilles very tender. Runnning is no
longer an option. I work on my feet, and after a long day, the next
day is painful one. My Achilles are constantly very tender to the
touch. I am concerned there is permanent damage. Has anyone out there
had a similar experience or heard of one? Let me know anything you can
about this condition. I went to the doctors and asked my doctor and
the pharmicist if they had heard anything relating Cipro to damaged
Achilles and they both said "no". A friend of mine is having the same
problem. He is in his 60's. Walking too much leaves him debilitated.
Thank you for your help.
