Subject: TROVAN

I just had a gallbladder surgery. It seems everything was going fine until they gave me trovan. I had a terrible reaction to this antibiotic, I could not breath, my pulse and blood pressure went down and the doctors told me it was a very serious reaction and I could die from that. I was lucky they reacted on time and they suspended the dosage right away.
I wonder if somebody is familiar with this reaction?

My husband has a terrible bladder infection. I went to the Dr with him
knowing full well he may prescribe levaquin for him. HE DID I fought a
hard battle and won, He changed it to keflex. I told him about tendon
rupture and he said he had never heard of such a reaction, says he uses
it all the time. He really got mad when I told him to go to his PDR. He
says it can cause insommina, NO DUH
Not to rag doctors but they really should read their PDR instead of
listening to the drug reps when a new drug comes out.

I to had a reaction to this drug. I took it before bedtime
and it woke me up in the middle of the night with an elevated
pulse rate. Glad but not glad I'm not alone. Talked to the
doctor, he says their are no side effects. I can't beleive
that any more after reading these previous entries. Is their
any other way to take this drug. (ie injection). thanks.

PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHERE TO FIND INFO ABOUT FLOXIN.
I KNOW THAT I READ SOME TIME AGO ABOUT SOME VERY
ADVERSE REACTIONS THAT PEOPLE WERE HAVING TO THIS
DRUG. I HAD A REACTION ABOUT 6 MONTHS AGO AND
ANOTHER ONE LAST NIGHT. I JUST WANT TO BE ABLE
TO PINPOINT THE REASON. ANY HELP IS APPRECIATED.

Subject: Cipro and Achilles tendon healing

After playing tennis in Sept. my achilles tendons were extremely sore.
Stopped tennis but the tendons didn't heal. Visited a Dr. and wore a boot
on the worst foot for a month, which helped but did not heal the tear (not
a complete rupture).

Got on the internet for some help in healing and found that Cipro has been
indicted for a lot of tendon injuries. I had been on heavy Cipro and then Levaquin for a prostate infection.

I immediately stopped the quinolones. Foolishly I injured the tendons again
doing light exercize. Now wearing boot on the other foot. MRI shows tear
damage of tendon and Dr. thought if immobilized in boot it would heal. But
my physical trainer wondered it it will EVER heal after 5 months.

For years I have played 3 or more sets 5 days a week doubles and singles
without an injury that did not heal within a few days. Age matters too,
they say. I'm 70, and going nuts in this boot and not playing tennis for
so long!

Does anyone out there know how long it takes some tendons to heal after
heavy Cipro damage? What helps? The PDR (Phys Desk Ref) says dogs lose
the use of their hind legs after Cipro doses. They shoot dogs. What now?

I recently was put on Levaquin for 14 days for sinusitis and complained to my
physician about headaches and dizziness. I am not taking any other
medications. Is this normal?

Subject: Update on Dr. Visit

I posted to the board back in March. I had taken 3 doses of Levaquin and had to have both legs cast due to achilles tendonitis. They almost ruptured. I had the casts on for 11 days, went to 6 sessions of P.T. The ortho said he could do nothing more for me. I went to the head of the practice of the group that had prescribed the Levaquin to me yesterday. I said my chief complaint was the pain on the bottom of my feet and from my ankles down, burning and pins and needles He is sending me for an EMG. Maybe nerve damage from the tendonitis is what he is saying. I showed hiom everything I had downloaded re: Levaquin and from Public Citizenm the petition and all of your posts and he basically said I shoulsdn't believe everything I read, that there would alway's be a few people who would jump on the "complaint bandwagon" and would tell their problems to anyone who would listen. He highly offended me, I cannot believe the smug attitudes I have gotten, considering what I value as substantial information regarding a potentially harmful drug out on the market. He insists it does more good than harm and I was the only person out of thousands of patients in their practice who had an adverse reaction.

So, I will go for the EMG, I don't know if it will show anything. I can only hope.

Just wanted to update you all on my case. I pray others are getting better.

Take Care and Blessings to each of you!

Robin

I took 500mg of Levaquin for 9 days for a UTI. I had a mild case of tennis
elbow at the time. I got severe tennis elbow and painful joints and swelling
throughout my body. I'm off the medication for over a week and I still have
joint and tendon pain. Tennis elbow is still bad. Also, I take the
anti-inflamitory Feledene for minor back and neck problems. Had Fifth's
disease with much body aches in last 6 weeks.--What can I do to get past
this?? I am a 39y/o female in good overall condition.

Subject: Re: Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs & Floxin?

The official word from my physician in a letter to the
pharmaceutical company was that my seizure control may have been
compromised by the levaqquin. He was writing to them to obtain other
reports related to seizures and levaquin. He reported the tics and
spasms as "break thru seizures" and added dilantin to my regimin.
Anyone with a seizure disorder or prior CNS problems should not take
quinolones.

I was given a RX for Floxin when a little voice inside of me
said,"Seizures, something in the News about 2 women and a serious
problem with seizures". Well I looked up the drug Floxin
(Ofloxacin) or also known as Quinolones on the Net and listed
under Drug Interactions was the risk of seizures with drug
combinations of Floxin and Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory
medications. I am so glad that little light went off in my
head???? Because I have been on anti-inflammatory medications for
years. I just hope this will help to inform others about this
possible risk! If you have any further information on this matter
please e-mail me! Thanks!
