Cipro Concerns Today Eyewitness News talked to a man who says "Cipro" caused him
to go crazy. Vince Mule says his doctors have even confirmed that it
was "Cipro" that caused his irrational behavior. "We had a shotgun in
the upstairs, my Mom's bedroom, I was staying with my parents at the
time and it was a Browning 12-gauge, and I was trying to grab that
because I was going to kill them," says Mule. Cipro is an antibiotic prescribed for everything from bladder
infections to anthrax prevention. Mule says the bad side effects
outweighed the benefits. "After I took it I started getting anxious.
It was almost like a roller coaster ride of emotions where I was
really excited and I was hallucinating and then I was really
depressed, like this would change in minutes." Eyewitness News has also received dozens of emails. One woman tells
us she is "unable to walk for more than a few minutes at a time." She
says "I am in agonizing pain throughout my body every day." A 60 year-old woman writes, "I also had psychotic episodes from
this drug." Another person says, "You never feel like you are in the moment and
even have difficulty spelling or saying simple words." Memphis physician Dr. Mack Land says despite all these stories, he
doesn't worry about giving Cipro to his patients. "That may be their
perception. I personally have never seen anybody have that violent of
a reaction," says Dr. Land. We tried to contact the drug company that makes Cipro, Bayer
Pharmaceuticals, but our calls were not returned.
